Going Green in the Garden
The “Green” movement is a much discussed and often confusing hot topic of late. Goebbert's as always, is doing all that it can to educate and offer products that are environmentally friendly.

Several terms we are hearing are Organic, Natural and Sustainable. Not to belabor and give over the top techno terms...

When you see an Organic label on a product you know that its been certified by either the state or OMRI (Organic Materials Review Institute). These products are based on standards set by the USDA National Organic Program (NOP)

Natural products are termed such when they are composed of ingredients that are naturally occurring in the environment with little or no human processing.

Sustainability, when related to environmental issues is pretty simple. It means that we allow the environment to maintain itself and not exhaust the resources that Earth has to offer. Sustainability is about much more than global warming.

At Goebbert's we offer earth friendly products. Healthy soil leads to fewer pest and diseases, makes for a superior yard and garden over those that are treated with harsh chemicals. Our job is to offer you choices and to help educate you as to what is best for your individual needs.

Green Living Tips
Use native plants in the landscape.  Native plants are naturally drought and disease resistant.  You can get a list of native plants for your area, from your County Extension office.

Reduce the amount of turf on your property.  Grass is a heavy consumer of water and fertilizers, and are high maintenance!  Lawns cannot absorb the amount of water plants can. 50% of all water consumption is from lawn irrigation.

Save your Rain Water.  Use Rain Barrels to collect rain water for your plants and landscape.  Rain barrels keep precious water from being wasted by washing into the storm drains.

Recycle - Cans, bottles, all paper, oil, paints, hard plastics.  Most localities have accommodations for the stuff that does not get curbside pick up. Recycling is the hallmark of green living.

Compost - Leaves, grass clippings, food scraps, biodegradable cups, paper, etc. You can choose from many types of composters depending on your own green living needs, and composting is another important aspect of green living.
