	Calendar of Events 2012 Call to Register 847-428-6727 April Hours 9am-6pm May Hours M-F 9am 8pm S&S 9am - 6pm Mother Day 9am -5pm April 28th Basics of Pruning Sat 10am - 11am Join Mike Holton, Illinois Certified Nursery and Perennial Professional of Goebbert’s, as he takes you through the basic ‘when and how to’ of pruning trees and shrubs. May 13th Mother's Day Bring Mom to the garden center Hours 9am - 5pm May 15th Plant it Here Party Tues. 5:30pm - 8:30pm $20.00 plus materials (includes dinner) Bring all your containers to this workshop and plant them here. Our staff will be on hand to help with plant selection and design. Best of all, you leave the mess behind. Dinner included. You may bring wine at your own risk. Open house format come when you can and stay as long as you like. Loading assistance and /or delivery of finished planters available. Space is VERY limited. You must register in person at the garden center. May 17th Miniature Gardening Thurs. 6:30pm - 7:30pm Come learn the basics of miniature garden set up and learn how to can for them. Faun for all ages. A free class. May 19th Perennials- Selection, care and feeding Sat 10am-11am Meet Brenta McMahon from Montelle Gardens and learn about perennail gardening. You'll have a chance to ask question about backyard vegetable growing from our farmer. May 28th Menorial Day Open 9am- 5pm June 13th Garden Party Wed 6pm -9pm Enjoy and evening of Wine, Friends and Door prizes. By invitation only - available in our Garden center starting May 1st. June 16th Pink Day Join us in the fight against breast cancer at our awareness day in the garden. Goebbert's will be donation a portion of our pink flower sales to the Susan G Komen Foundation. We will also have local businesses here to help us raise awareness. June 29tht Fresh Produce Starts Aug 4th Meet your food on the farm Sat 11am - 2pm. Goebbert's Pumpkin Patch in Hampshire, Ill Free event Wagon ride to the field to see your food growing, free train ride on the pumpkin express, free corn roast and more. 		The best time to prune evergreens is from December to March during the winter dormant season. It is recommended to not prune heavily in the spring because cuts made during the growing season will result in very dense growth on top. The dense upper growth can shade the lower foliage so much that it will die. Proper pruning will allow more air and light to penetrate the plant. The cuts made to an emerging branch will allow side branches to develop lower in the plant which gives the plant denser growth but does not increase size.
